OK, I admit it…
August 5, 2009
I’ve been absolute crap at updating this thing over the last… oh… four months. This is my reasoning: It took us two months to find an apartment. We had to search, pack, and move. and then unpack. In the mean time I was still working the night shift.
Well, I’m all moved in now. Admittedly I still haven’t unpacked a lot of my junk – I need a desk and a set of drawers – but I feel more settled in now. And! I’m finally on the day shift at work which is EXCELLENT because it means I will be more likely to update.
This is what has been going on:
-I went to the Newport Folk Festival this past weekend and it was very pleasant. Keep an eye on www.npr.org/music because they will have streaming audio of all of the bands (I hope). Check out the Low Anthem – they are really wonderful.
-I started a TwitPic account which is pretty much all scans from work. You can check it out here.
-We have a giant, GIANT Andy Warhol Chanel No. 5 print hanging in our living room now. I’m pretty sure it is the size of our bed.
I think that’s it. Here are some links:
Fairytales and Post it Notes – Vintage and fairytale inspired costume jewellery by London designer. -This is freaking amazing. If I had more money and actually wore jewellery this would be it. I might actually start…
Grand - is a store not too far from my new neighborhood. Interesting stuff and an excellent space.
Matt Murphy’s – is an excellent pub in Brookline Village. They’ve had a bit of legal trouble lately which has led them to completely change their format. They have a new menu which is pretty much amazing. Also: Andy the bartender is probably the best feature. I go to trivia on wednesdays and you should too.

I guess I’ll say something about Mike.
July 1, 2009
Thriller came out in 1983 which means I have spent my entire life pretending not to care about Michael Jackson. That is to say, there hasn’t been a single week of my life that has gone by that I haven’t heard a Michael Jackson song, read an article about him, or at least seen a picture – so that makes it pretty hard for me to keep up this whole “not caring” act.
The fact of the matter is: Michael Jackson is dead. I’ve been so used to reading outlandish tabloid stories about him for the last 26 years (or you know, since I COULD read) that my immediate thought upon hearing the news from a co-worker last Thursday night was “Eh, he’s faking it.” Because wouldn’t that make more sense than him actually being dead?
My boyfriend and I went to a Newbury Comics on Sunday afternoon and there were no Michael Jackson CDs or records. None. Last Wednesday there would have been at least ten or so. The Idolator article I’ve linked to below wonders how many Jackson records have actually been purchased since last Thursday since Soundscan doesn’t track used sales. It is an interesting question, and an interesting phenomenon. People Are Buying Records. The fact is, all of these people could EASILY grab a torrent of any Michael Jackson album or single or WHATEVER… but they want to pay money. They want to own a copy of Bad. They want to somehow touch this guy.
And me? I want to know what I missed. See, 26 years of denying interest in something is a Long Time. But I’ve always been interested – hell, morbidly fascinated – with this man. The dance moves, the over the top music videos with dance routines involving elephants, the tabloid stories, the courtroom dramas… God. I sat through the BET awards hoping against hope that SOMEONE would cover “Man in the Mirror” but instead got a whole lot of Jamie Foxx “singing” and “being funny”.
So, I’m stuck on what else to say. I guess almost completely unrelated to anything I’ve just said I want to say that pictures of Michael Jackson as a child have been making me very sad. A lot has been made of the fact that this guy never had a childhood and so he spent his entire adult life as some kind of freakish manchild… and maybe that is true. I’m not going to judge the guy anymore. I’m just going to let myself like “Billie Jean”.

David Byrne Sums Up “Dark Was The Night: Live”
May 7, 2009
David Byrne Journal: 05.05.09: New York — Cinco de Mayo.
I was lucky enough to scre tickets (and decent ones at that) to the live performance of Dark Was the Night @ Radio City Music Hall this past Sunday night. It was pretty much one of the best shows I’ve seen in years… I’ve not really been able to sum it up in words, but David Byrne does a pretty good job in his journal. I hear tell that NPR will be streaming the show, and I look forward to hearing it again.
If you get the chance, SEE BON IVER. They just keep getting better and better;.

John Waters on the Origins of Teabagging.
April 17, 2009
It goes without saying that this link is sort of inappropriate for folks under 17.. I mean the mention of John Waters alone should tip you off.
So why is it so OK for Fox News to use the term “teabagging” so freely without the FCC getting their panties in a bind? Well, I dont’ have the answer, but i do have an amusing link:
